A selection of client projects I've worked on ...

The front cover of the Royal Society of Chemistry's education research report, 'Is chemistry accessible for all?'

Client: Royal Society of Chemistry

I was commissioned to turn a detailed academic report into an accessible 16-page summary, distilling the research into the key messages and practical actions for policymakers, educators, funders and parents.

I repurposed the content for the RSC's website, leading with the headline statistics to capture attention.

The result was a clear, engaging way to communicate complex findings – helping different audiences quickly understand what the research means and, crucially, what they can do about it.

Client: Alzheimer's Research UK

Two research reports needed to be combined into one impactful report exploring people’s experiences of dementia diagnosis.

Working with the Information & Involvement and Policy teams to identify the key research findings, I carried out a substantive copy-edit (pp. 6–25), including copywriting, to bring the principles for better diagnosis to the fore. I also wrote the introduction and edited the executive summary.

The report forms part of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Dementia Unseen policy campaign, mobilising supporters across the UK to call on the government to guarantee everyone’s right to an early, accurate dementia diagnosis.

Member and supporter communications

Client: RSPB

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds commissioned me to work on a range of member and supporter communications over a four-month period to fill a gap in their copywriting team. The projects ranged in topic and level of editorial intervention.

The strategic narrative for the 2025 summer fundraising appeal was a substantive copy-edit to ensure internal teams and external agencies had one engaging and consistent story on which to base their communications activity.

Other projects included solus emails for the farming campaigns for RSPB Scotland and RSPB Wales, a membership recruitment campaign email, Orkney Appeal supporter comms, interpretation panels for the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival (Swift Garden), and updating the Big Garden Birdwatch Creative Guidance for internal and external users.

Client: Royal Society of Chemistry

The Royal Society of Chemistry’s prestigious Prizes recognise individuals and teams whose work is advancing the chemical sciences.

Across four consecutive years, from 2021 to 2024, I was commissioned to copy-edit the bios and citations of around 60 prize winners, as well as the press releases announcing the winners. I also wrote the accompanying email campaign for the wider chemical sciences community.

The work presented a particular editorial challenge: the citations often explored highly complex areas of chemistry. The aim was to preserve the accuracy and nuance of the science while making each citation as clear, engaging and accessible as possible – ensuring these remarkable achievements could be understood and celebrated by audiences beyond the chemistry community.
